Hundreds of student shoppers make Cascades ‘Lock-In’ a huge success

More than 800 students made the latest student event at Cascades a huge success on Thursday night, as Portsmouth’s shopping centre opened its doors for an exclusive late night extravaganza.

Cascades opened ‘after hours’ exclusively for students with live music, a Star Wars-themed photobooth and a whole host of entertainment throughout the mall as savvy student shoppers took advantage of incredible savings and special offers.

“We had some brilliant entertainment in the centre to make sure everyone had a great time,” said Cascades Centre Director, Rhoda Joseph. “A DJ truck provided music throughout the evening, we also had a giant deckchair, Capital FM’s ‘Capital Pong’ game and a number of different activities in stores.”

“This is the first time that we’ve held a student event like this in the spring. We hold an event during freshers’ week but after retailers and students asked if we would put on a second event, we teamed up with our tenants and local businesses to put this together, offering a variety of one night only discounts and special offers for students.”

Admission to the student event was free and open to anyone over 16 who attended any college or university and had registered online. “As this was our first spring Lock-In, we weren’t sure how many students to expect,” she said, “but we had a really broad range of shoppers on the night, from across the region and some from even further afield.”
