Style Icon competition 2009 winner announced! (Oct 2009)
Hundreds of people enjoyed the spectacular Grand Finals of the Style Icon competition at Cascades Shopping Centre last weekend which saw Jade Linden, 15, from Cosham crowned Style Icon 2009.
Cascades’ Centre Director, Rhoda Joseph, handed Jade prizes worth thousands of pounds, donated by competition sponsors, Portsmouth Football Club and Curves, the women’s health and fitness club, and by retailers at the Centre, as well as local amenities such as the Odeon Cinema and the Kings Theatre.
Jade now becomes the Face of Cascades 2010, featuring in the Centre’s promotions for the next year. One of her first duties will be attending Cascades’ Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday November 19th.
Jade beat hundreds of other hopefuls who entered the competition to reach the Grand Finals for a day of choreographed shows and entertainment from local performers.
All the finalists showcased the latest trends from stores at the Centre, and got the chance to show the judges why their individual sense of style made them a style icon. Jade’s personality and confidence wowed the Style Icon judges, which included Rhoda Joseph, Quay Radio and retailers such as Miss Selfridge and Next, as well as last year’s winner, Matt Drummond.
Ben Wilshire-Hellyer won the 5-8 age category, Ellie Hales won the 9-14 age category, and Sam Millis won the 15+ age category, each receiving a bundle of prizes each.
Cascades’ online ‘babyicon’ prize competition was won by Coral Whittaker from Havant.
The crowds of shoppers attending the Grand Finals to cheer on their favourites also received some fantastic Curves goody bags and got the chance to win prizes from H&M at the Centre and from Portsmouth’s Siva Relaxation Centre.
Four Pompey fans’ dreams came true as well when they were chosen to be the Face of Pompey for a year. Sam Ndlovu, 12, Megan Stevens, 12, Charlotte Chase, 18, and Lewis Monteith, 15, received a signed shirt and two stand match tickets. They will also have the opportunity to model and appear in advertising across all of the Portsmouth Football Club stores.
Jade was surprised and thrilled with her win. “I have really enjoyed the competition and made loads of new friends as well,” she said.
Rhoda Joseph said, “Jade is a very worthy winner and all of our stores were delighted with the success of the competition, which saw record numbers of shoppers coming to the Centre to enjoy the day.”
